About Bournemouth

Bournemouth started life in 1899 as Boscombe FC, a successor to the Boscombe St John's Institute side. In 1910 the landowner J.E. Cooper-Dean leased the club a former gravel pit next to Kings Park, and the ground built there was named Dean Court after him. As Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, it entered the Football League in 1923, and the name AFC Bournemouth followed in 1971.

Known as the Cherries, Bournemouth spent decades in the lower divisions; Harry Redknapp's side knocked holders Manchester United out of the FA Cup in 1984 and won the Third Division in 1987. After a second administration in 2008, Eddie Howe led three promotions, reaching the Premier League in 2015. Sixth place in 2025/26 brought a first European campaign, and the ground is being enlarged towards 20,000 seats.
