About Newcastle
Newcastle United trace their roots to 1881, when Stanley FC was formed in the east of the city; it soon became Newcastle East End. In 1892 East End took over St. James' Park from their struggling neighbours Newcastle West End and, later that year, adopted the name Newcastle United to mark the union.
Newcastle were league champions in 1905, 1907, 1909 and 1927 and have won six FA Cups, three of them between 1951 and 1955. They also lifted the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and the 2025 League Cup. Kevin Keegan's attacking side finished second in 1996, and the club were runners-up again in 1997 under Kenny Dalglish. Sunderland are the great rivals in the Tyne–Wear derby.
