About Chelsea
Chelsea were formed at the Rising Sun pub, across the road from Stamford Bridge, on 10 March 1905. The businessman Gus Mears had bought the athletics ground to stage football, and when neighbours Fulham declined to rent it he started a club of his own. Chelsea were voted into the Football League within months and have played at Stamford Bridge ever since.
Known as the Blues, Chelsea won their first league title in 1955 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1971. Roman Abramovich's takeover in 2003 began their most successful era, bringing five more league titles and Champions League wins in 2012 and 2021. After he sold the club in 2022, they won the Conference League and the Club World Cup in 2025. Their main rivals are Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
