About Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur dates from September 1882, when schoolboys from the Hotspur Cricket Club and a nearby grammar school formed a football team to keep playing through the winter. Called Hotspur FC at first, the club added Tottenham to its name in 1884. It played on Tottenham Marshes and then Northumberland Park before settling in 1899 at the ground that became known as White Hart Lane.
As a Southern League side, Spurs took the 1901 FA Cup, and Bill Nicholson's team did the Double in 1960/61. The 1963 Cup Winners' Cup was the first major European prize won by a British club; UEFA Cups followed in 1972 and 1984, then the Europa League in 2025. Home since 2019 is a new stadium on the White Hart Lane site. Arsenal are their North London derby rivals.
