About Everton

Everton grew out of St Domingo's, a team formed in 1878 by members of a Methodist chapel in the Everton district of Liverpool so they had a sport to play in winter. Renamed Everton a year later, the club played at Anfield from 1884 and was one of the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888.

A rent dispute in 1892 took Everton to Goodison Park, their home for 133 years, and Liverpool were formed to use Anfield, starting the Merseyside derby. Everton have won nine league titles, five FA Cups and the 1985 European Cup Winners' Cup, and Dixie Dean's 60 league goals in 1927–28 are still a top-flight record. In 2025 the club moved to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on the Mersey waterfront.
