About Darlington

The original Darlington were formed in July 1883 at a meeting at the town's grammar school and played at Feethams, next to the cricket ground, for 120 years. Founder members of the Northern League in 1889, they turned professional in 1908 and joined the Football League's new Third Division North in 1921, winning it in 1924/25 for two seasons in the Second Division. They won the Conference in 1989/90, the Fourth Division in 1990/91 and the FA Trophy at Wembley in 2011, but a move in 2003 to a 27,000-seat stadium on Neasham Road brought three administrations, and the club was wound up in 2012.

Supporters re-formed the club as Darlington 1883 that summer, and the FA placed it in the Northern League Division One, four divisions lower. It won that title with 122 points in 2012/13, went up through the play-offs in 2015 and won the Northern Premier League Premier Division in 2015/16, and has played in the National League North since. The club returned to the town on Boxing Day 2016 at Blackwell Meadows, which it shares with Darlington RFC, and regained the Darlington FC name in 2017. Ninth in 2025/26, it plays in the National League North again in 2026/27, and Hartlepool United are the main rivals, with Spennymoor Town also a rival.
