About Alvechurch

Alvechurch was founded in 1929 as Alvechurch Juniors, in the Worcestershire village south of Birmingham, and played in the Redditch League until the Second World War. Its ground is Lye Meadow on Redditch Road, where 13,500 watched an FA Amateur Cup quarter-final against Enfield in 1965. The club won the Worcestershire Combination three times in the 1960s and the West Midlands (Regional) League four years running from 1974, and in 1971 its FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie with Oxford City went to five replays, six matches in 17 days, a record that has stood since the FA cut replays in 1991.

Known as the Church, Alvechurch reached the FA Cup third round in 1973/74 and won the Southern League championship in 1981, beating Dartford in the play-off between the divisional winners, but folded in 1993 and was re-formed in 1994 as Alvechurch Villa, reverting to its name in 1996. It won the Midland League in 2016/17, went up again a year later and has played in the Southern League Premier Division Central, the seventh tier, since 2018, losing the 2019 play-off final to King's Lynn Town. It finished 14th in 2025/26, when it reached the FA Trophy fourth round, its best run, and stays in the division for 2026/27.
