About FC Halifax Town
FC Halifax Town is the successor to Halifax Town AFC, formed on 24 May 1911 at the Saddle Hotel in the town and a founder member of the Football League's Third Division North in 1921, the year it moved to The Shay. The old club lost its League place in 1993, won it back in 1998 and lost it again in 2002, then went into administration in 2007 and was wound up in 2008 owing more than £800,000 to HM Revenue and Customs. Its directors formed FC Halifax Town the same summer and the new club started in the Northern Premier League Division One North, keeping The Shay, a council-owned ground shared with Halifax Panthers rugby league club.
Under Neil Aspin the club won three promotions in four seasons, taking the Division One North title in 2010, the Northern Premier League title in 2011 and the 2013 Conference North play-off final against Brackley Town. It won the FA Trophy at Wembley in 2016 and 2023. Sixth in the National League in 2024/25, it lost the play-off eliminator 4-0 at Oldham Athletic, and it finished eighth in 2025/26; it is in the National League for 2026/27. Supporters count Huddersfield Town, Rochdale, Bradford (Park Avenue) and York City among their rivals.
