About Barrow AFC
Barrow AFC were founded on 16 July 1901 at a meeting in the Drill Hall on the Strand in Barrow-in-Furness, and first played at The Strawberry, then Ainslie Street and Little Park in Roose. The club moved to Holker Street in 1909, beating Eccles Borough 5-2 in its first game there. It won the Lancashire Combination in 1920/21 and was a founder member of the Football League's Third Division North in 1921.
Barrow stayed in the bottom division until promotion in 1967 and finished eighth in the Third Division in 1967/68, their best placing. Voted out of the League in 1972, when Hereford United took their place, they won the FA Trophy in 1990 and 2010 and returned as National League champions in 2020, after the season was settled on points per game. Six seasons in League Two ended with relegation in 2026, when they finished bottom, so they play in the National League in 2026/27, where Holker Street now carries the name of its sponsor, Furness Building Society. Workington and Carlisle United are their local rivals.
