About Sholing

Sholing's roots are in the works teams of the Thornycroft shipyard at Woolston, on the River Itchen in Southampton, which fielded sides from the 1880s and were re-formed several times before folding in 1952. The present club was re-formed in 1960 as the shipbuilder's side and joined the Southampton Junior League, playing as Vosper Thornycroft and then VT FC after its parent company. When the VT Group ceased to exist in 2010 it took the name Sholing, the district nearest its ground on Portsmouth Road, now the Charters Stadium.

Known as the Boatmen, Sholing won the FA Vase at Wembley in May 2014, beating West Auckland Town 1-0, and was Wessex League champion in 2013/14 and 2018/19. It won promotion through the play-offs in 2022 to the Southern League Premier Division South, the seventh tier, and finished sixth in 2025/26, its highest placing, just outside the play-offs. It stays in the Premier Division South in 2026/27.
