About Birmingham
The club began in autumn 1875, when cricketers from Holy Trinity Church, Bordesley, formed a football side for the winter and called it Small Heath Alliance. After early games on waste ground near Arthur Street and a spell in Sparkbrook, it settled at Muntz Street in 1877. It turned professional in 1885, became Birmingham in 1905, moved to St Andrew's in 1906 and took its current name in 1943.
Birmingham have won the League Cup twice, beating Aston Villa over two legs in 1963 and Arsenal at Wembley in 2011, and reached the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final in both 1960 and 1961. They were also FA Cup runners-up in 1931 and 1956. The Second City derby with Villa is the club's defining rivalry, and in 2024-25 they won the League One title at the first attempt.
