About Lincoln City

Lincoln City was formed in 1884, filling the gap left when the city's Lincoln Rovers club folded, and won its first recorded match 9–1 against Sleaford. In 1892 the club became a founder member of the Football League's new Second Division, and three years later it left the John O'Gaunts ground for Sincil Bank, where it still plays.

The Imps are named after the carved figure in Lincoln Cathedral. In 1987 they became the first club relegated automatically from the Football League, but returned a year later. The Cowley brothers' side won the National League in 2017, reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals on the way, and in 2026 the club won League One to return to the second tier after 65 years.
