About Millwall
Millwall started life in 1885 as Millwall Rovers, formed by workers at J.T. Morton's cannery on the Isle of Dogs, many of whom had come south from Scotland. The club helped found the Southern League in 1894 and won its first two titles, then in 1910 crossed the Thames to The Den in New Cross, entering the Football League in 1920.
The Lions, a name that stuck after a giant-killing FA Cup run in 1900, won the old Second Division in 1988 to reach the top flight for the first time. Their 2004 FA Cup final defeat by Manchester United still earned a first European campaign. The current Den, opened in 1993, was England's first new all-seater ground after the Taylor Report. West Ham United are their traditional rivals.
