About Burnley
Burnley FC was born on 18 May 1882, when members of the Burnley Rovers rugby club voted to switch to association football; the 'Rovers' was soon dropped. In early 1883 the club moved to Turf Moor, next to the town's cricket ground, and has played there ever since. Burnley were among the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888.
The Clarets have been champions of England twice, in 1920-21, when they went 30 league games unbeaten, and in 1959-60, and won the FA Cup in 1914. Only four other clubs share their record of winning every one of English football's four professional divisions. Claret and blue have been their colours since 1910, and the East Lancashire derby with Blackburn Rovers is their main rivalry.
