About Derby County

Derby County began in 1884, set up by Derbyshire County Cricket Club to give its members a winter game and the club some extra income. The new side played first at the cricket ground and was among the twelve clubs that founded the Football League in 1888. In 1895 it switched to the Baseball Ground, which remained its home for more than a century.

The Rams won the FA Cup in 1946, but their best era came in the 1970s: Brian Clough and Peter Taylor led them to the league title in 1972, and Dave Mackay won a second in 1975. The club moved to Pride Park Stadium in 1997. Matches against Nottingham Forest, contested for the Brian Clough Trophy, are the East Midlands derby.
