About West Brom
West Bromwich Albion began in 1878 as West Bromwich Strollers, a team formed by workers at George Salter's spring works in the town. The club took the Albion name in 1880, and in 1888 it was one of the twelve clubs that founded the Football League. After playing at several earlier grounds, Albion moved to The Hawthorns in 1900.
Albion were league champions in 1919–20, have won the FA Cup five times, most recently in 1968, and lifted the League Cup in 1966. Ron Atkinson's late-1970s side, with Cyrille Regis, Laurie Cunningham and Brendan Batson, is remembered for challenging racial barriers. The Hawthorns sits higher above sea level than any other ground in the top four divisions, and the Black Country derby with Wolves is Albion's main rivalry.
