About Wolverhampton
Wolves began in 1877 as St Luke's, a team formed by boys at St Luke's church school, Blakenhall, after their headmaster gave them a football. In 1879 the club merged with the football side of a local cricket club, Blakenhall Wanderers, to become Wolverhampton Wanderers. They helped found the Football League in 1888 and moved to Molineux the following year.
Under Stan Cullis in the 1950s, Wolves won three league titles, and their floodlit friendlies against sides such as Honvéd helped inspire the European Cup. The club has won four FA Cups and two League Cups and reached the 1972 UEFA Cup final. Relegated to the Fourth Division in 1986, Wolves then won back-to-back titles, powered by Steve Bull's goals. West Bromwich Albion are their main rivals.
