About Swansea

Swansea Town was founded in 1912 and began life in the Southern League, where its first match was a 1–1 draw with Cardiff City at the Vetch Field. The club joined the Football League in 1920 and won the Third Division South five years later. It took the name Swansea City in 1970, the year after Swansea was granted city status.

John Toshack took Swansea from the Fourth Division to the First in four seasons, and in 1981–82 the side finished sixth in the top flight. After moving to the Liberty Stadium, now the Swansea.com Stadium, in 2005, the Swans became the first Welsh club in the Premier League in 2011 and won the League Cup in 2013. Their main rivalry is the South Wales derby with Cardiff City.
